Erin represents a state of the art plugin suite dedicated to Mastering. This bundle, consisting of three different studio processors, embodies the luxury mastering equipment as manufactured by one of the most prestigious and appreciated designers in the world, who has been known since the early ‘70s for his innovative approach in the field of tube-based systems for the highend, hi-fi market.
Erin is our first plug-in to introduce a new technology called ULTRAGAIN™ matching, which consists of an extremely accurate mapping of all gain values in all frequency bands, providing even the most demanding mastering engineer with a perfect resolution, consistency and response.
The Erin suite consists of:
Each plug-in included in the Erin suite comes in a “Standard” version and an alternative “ZL*” version which operates at *zero latency and is thus suitable for use when tracking, at the cost of extra processing resources. For further details consult the Erin user's manual in the Overview section.
The Erin EQ ST is a faithful emulation of an 'esoteric' 5-band stereo parametric equalizer mainly used in mastering facilities. Its utterly prohibitive cost makes it one of the most revered equalizers out there for musically shaping tracks of any genre. We sourced an immaculate unit and carefully sampled it to give you the same creative firepower than only high-end mastering rooms had previously access to.
Both channels of the EQ feature five bands, hi-shelf and low-shelf filters with gain and fixed Q controls. It is also equipped with three boost/cut filters with adjustable center frequency. The preamp and each band can be bypassed at any time using the dedicated button controls.
Erin EQ ST features our new ULTRAGAIN™ matching technology, ensuring extremely accurate gain mapping on all bands and providing even the most demanding mastering engineers with perfect resolution, consistency, and response, all of this while retaining the original behavior and character of the hardware.
ERIN EQ MID is designed for use on the mid-range, focusing on frequencies from 200Hz to 5kHz. It is a faithful emulation of an extremely intuitive tube unit made in the UK and reminiscent of Pultec-style tube designs.
It features a limited number of selectable frequencies, placed closer to each other compared to other EQ designs, to give you more precise control over this critical part of the spectrum. Finally, a colorful preamp stage and dedicated Mid/Side, Left/Right controls make it a truly versatile processor for more specialized uses. It is therefore a very useful plug-in for all those sources who live in the midrange of a mix like violins, guitars, and vocals.
Erin Comp is a stereo tube compressor/limiter derived from an esoteric mono unit manufactured in the UK and designed to limit or compress the signal with the minimum of interference below the threshold. It is very simple to operate and features standard attack and release times. A deeply optimized behavior around the 'knee' of the attack/decay envelope and a euphonically transparent dynamic action, makes this compressor a top choice for mixers, mastering wizards, and extremely demanding artists. It is not by chance that legendary Pink Floyd frontman and guitarist extraordinaire David Gilmour owns two of these luxury processors in his unique Astoria recording studio.
With this Erin update, and from release C001 onwards, you can now enjoy significant new features for better performance and sound quality.
New Hyper engine
Our standard compressors run at 22kHz regardless of sample rate or oversampling; this implies that the reduction, attack, and release curves are not calculated for every sample but for every 'n' samples, where 'n' depends on the sample rate.
For example, on fast transients, the input level is evaluated correctly; however, the reduction is calculated after 'n' samples, so the signal containing the transient is not compressed in time, and the transient "escapes" compression.
Now, this new Hyper compression tech calculates the amount of compression and the attack and release curves at each sample, so compression is applied immediately and no longer after 'n' samples.
The speed of these new compressors can be further increased by oversampling while keeping the power consumption at 1/12th of our standard compressors.
Erin (Release C001) includes two new plugins in addition to the three already present in previous releases, bringing the suite to a total of five plugins.
With this update Erin includes the following new plugins:
The Erin Mono 'Hyper' compressor and brickwall limiter is based on our new 'Hyper' compression technology.
The beating heart of this plug-in is undoubtedly the presence of two new brickwall limiters, the first more 'traditional' and the second more 'pioneering' in their conception, both created from analogue dynamics processors and then converted to brickwall limiters, a relatively innovative feature for today's market which is characterised by a strong prevalence of limiters using (program dependent) digital releases.
We have taken Erin Stereo Comp to whole new level by using our 'Hyper' compression tech. This new 'Hyper' tube compressor/limiter includes 4 new powerful 'hyper' compressor emulations giving faster and more accurate compression with less CPU consumption.
