Prime Studio Caribou Bundle / N**e 8016

Postby Mannymac » Tue Feb 09, 2016 3:53 pm

I'm really surprised that there is not more talk about the Prime Studio Caribou Bundle.
I did some research what these are based on.
Essentially what you are getting is parts of their 8016 console that once was at Caribou Ranch. It was refurbished by Vintage King in 2009 and then sold to Prime Studio.
The bundle includes a Stereo N**e 1064 Eq, Stereo 2254 Comp Limiter and the Filter section.

The only thing that is really putting me off are the insane prices.
The EQ goes for 199 €, the Compressor for 219€ and the Filter for 59€. Whole bundle is 399€.
I'm demoing them right now and I have to say that on the busses they sound insanely good. Especially the comp/limiter gave a rather weak male vocal an substantial amount of weight. The Equalizer has a nice sound going in but is a bit limited. The filters sound gorgeous.

As N**e plugins go, they are among the best I ever heard. It is nice to not have another rendition of the 1073 for a change.
Does anybody else have these or has tested them?

yeah i actually thought it was a N**e 1073 so that was a turnoff as i only like the pres in a 1073 not a big fan of the 73 eq

but that the eq is not a 1073 is a nice surprise

i really want this but the asking price i won't pay
so im not sure if i want to demo it hehe
i really hope some of the nebula developers will make 1064 N eq :)

by the way do you know what HW Prime Studio Compressor II is based on ? :)
as this is more in the price range im willing to pay

Beatles console. A fantastic compressor. Must be close to Chandly Zener and TG Limiter.

Hey guys, I'm a loyal person so it may influence some of what I say, but none of what I heard.

The compressor GUI is beautiful
The web site is a little difficult to navigate (for me)
The sound is fantastic
AlexB and T. Petherick, stand right up to it for ~1/6th the cost.

No doubt, the compressor is really great!

Yes the Prime Studio Comp is based on their E*I TG12345 MK Q I think.

This console used to be in Abbey Road.

On a side note: Prime Studios gear list is insane :D :D

I'm very impressed with this new Caribou N**e 2254 Compressor... Amazing work!
It sounds sweet, and behaves smoothly. Very usable.

...Actually in my wish list

@Mannymac
I tested the whole set quite extensively and also send an E-Mail to them because of the high pricing (there was no bundle price initially!). To sum it up, I love all 3 of them - not the guys - the PIs :-). Especially the comp/lim gives the signal an authentic analog 3D room which I have heard only with old analog equipment up to now. For me a complete step to another PI level, and AA's PIs are already on higher level than the rest.

So, if you like the "old", bold sound, that is something REALLY special you will adore. I was pissed by the pricing first, especially by the way of advertising but I have the feeling they just did not have the capacity to do it all that fast. The bundle price together with the NAMM discount seems to be quite fair in my eyes and the way of promoting it now also.
I had to invest a weekend to learn how to use them, they are from another world and also my PC was working/bouncing very hard.. It needs a lot of CPU, esp. the comp.

I don't mind from what they sampled it - it's a great sounding product - check it out!

yes we are using a new tech. We'll release it for next incoming products, Amethyst (this month) and Pink (next month). For Black comp we need a further developement. But yes, compressors are not an issue any more in nebula world.

Giancarlo, is the new compressor tech implemented in the core 7 updates for murano and ultramarine? or would they have to be resampled? I honestly believe that these amazing (and pricey) plugins deserve an improved compression behaviour! thanks
