Your Non-Nebula Favorite Plugins

Postby jpchartrand » Wed Feb 26, 2014 4:16 pm

I use almost exclusively Nebula on my mixes. However I still use a few key plugins that I love. I thought we could share some insight between ourselves.

Here's my list of essentials:

DMG Equilibrium - Simple yet powerful EQ
Decapitator - I use this followed by an instance of HO's distressor mojo library
Microshift - I would LOVE to see a Nebula version of this gem
H-Delay - YES WAVES lol I love this delay. Simple and to the point.
BX Digital 2 - MANDATORY for the mixbus IMO

I just sat and thought about what I don't use Nebula for nowadays, and I'm surprised how small the list is now haha.

I only SOMETIMES use gates (but got a couple hardware gates so not very often), MAutoAlign (a phase aligning plugin that I use for aligning drums or multi-miced guitar tracks), and Waves Linear Phase Multiband Compressor in rare cases.

Literally everything else is Nebula now! Mics, Pres, Consoles, Tape, EQ's, Filters, Compressors, Reverbs, Delay... After years of using algos, I wouldn't have it any other way!

I just saw your post on that today. I'm downloading it tonight and I'm sure I will love it.

Occasional Valhalla verb (any) and Shimmer

I love the Klanghelm DC8C, SDRR, and his VU meters

I admit, I like the Waves RS56...(I bow my head in shame...)

Technically not Nebula, so I'll include CDSM's VTM-M2. It's on EVERY mix, master, and on most individual tracks somehow, no questions asked.

Any finishing limiter, for that unfortunate client that demands the final master to hit the "brickwall".... I love the transparency of Barricade, but have heard that the new Voxengo Elephant (just released) is very good.

I have a folder of (too many) algo plugins that I am still hesitant to actually remove, but I have them separated in my Reaper fx folders in an "extra" category...I haven't opened them in months, so I'll leave them out. I just can't seem to discipline myself enough to flush them from the hard drive, that "just in case" feeling is still looming...(Bootsy, Sknote, Stillwell,PSP......)

DMG Equilibrium - My Go to EQ!
H-Delay - My Go to Delay!
Oxford SuprEsser - Very Clean!
UAD 1176 Rev.A - Great compresor and if I need more vintage sound, I use the CDSoundMaster "1176 Preamp Collection Library" after.
iZotope Ozone 5 - I really like the "Stereo Imaging"
Slate Digital FG-X – For me, the best limiter around
Voxengo Span Meter - Simple Frequency Meter
VUM Duo meters - Simple VU Meter
