great!
looking forward to the new tool. i am still using samplitudes batch-tool, but this seems to be very convenient for prelisteningtests and rendering.

NebulaMan 0.3

0.3 - what's new

wrong encoding in the settings file - fixed
OSX: settings file is now located in /username/Library/Preferences folder
OSX: sample audio file "zabukowski.wav" is located inside NebulaMan.app
volume slider
autoload last program at startup
i/o audio file attributes info (preview, rendering)
input/output latency info (ASIO Windows only)
Init program 0 available in the list

HOT !!! 8)
background rendering (single file/program)
... rendered file gets suffix "_NR" (temporary solution)
... stop rendering button
... rendering elapsed time information
... rendering progress bar
... independent rendering Acqua/Nebula instance (concurrent independent playback/rendering)

Enjoy 8-)

made a short test on windows xp.
the wrong encoding is fixed now.
but i get a lot of crackles in file playback.
in bypass-mode it is okay, when processing is enabled it crackles in almost all buffersizes (rme multiface-audiointerface), even when no program is loaded.

in the older version, there was no problem like this.

will test the mac osx version when i have time.

I guess this has something to do with a soundcard/audio file samplerate. Currently NebulaMan is only opening an audio stream with a fixed sample rate 44100 Hz, so only files with this particular sample rate will be played back correctly. What is the sample rate of your audio file? Please set your soundcard to 44100, also (if it is not already).

Anyway, i have to look further into this. I will check more different scenarios with a different file types, samplerates etc.

Regarding ASIO settings dialog - can you access it from your DAW program?

Thanks
Zabukowski

Its now seems to be working if i set my soundcard to 44.1. Only problem, is that i use 2 soundcards chained, and i cannot select the proper output to listen.

But i checked on the soundcard mixer and there was signal activity on my other output when i pressed "Start"

Ok, we are making some progress - next version will have an option to select soundcard output.

0.3 - before starting playback, soundcard is switched to the soundfile's sample rate. I guess now files with non 44.1 kHz sample rate should play ok, too (except if soundcard is locked to the external wordclock)

Uh, this is strange!!!
There were almost no changes in the playback code done since 0.3. I've tested this with 2 systems with no crackles at all.

1. can you please check 0.2 (previous version) again - is it still working OK?
2. i will look deeper into this - there is a new acqua library (win) with 0.3 which shouldn't affect playback, but still i will make 0.3a with old acqua to check.

Next version will have an option to set internal working audio buffer size of the program. Then we'll be able to experiment with different settings to fine tune performance (and find potential bugs).

Thanks

There is 0.3a with an old (previous) acqua library. Please check if crackles with processed playback are still there (i guess they are)

In the log window 0.3a, Acqua should report version 1.3.460, while 0.3 should report 1.3.466

Thanks

Another thing:

0.3 Acqua/Nebula process audio with 1024 byte pieces.

0.2 has processed audio with much larger pieces - Nebula latency * 2

Maybe this change somehow affects performance. Anyway, we'll soon find out, when buffer size will be user configurable.

tried version 0.2 windows again. it works without crackles, but is a lttle unstable. when changing programs, while the file plays, it crashes sometimes.

in mac osx version 0.3 works great. newest snow leopard and a firewire io 26 interface.

will test 0.3a in windows now.

version o.3a has still problems with crackles.
tried to render a file, to check if rendering is ok, but it started the process without doing anything (wrote an empty file).
then i can't close the application, because it says it is rendering, but there is no renderprocess in the background, cpu say nothing.
the info-window shows the inputstatements to renderer, then nothing....

the same with v 0.3
will test on mac osx later.
