What are Power Tools, Renderer and Renderer GUI?

Postby jbraner » Thu Apr 08, 2010 9:41 pm

Can anyone give a brief description of what these tools actually do?

Is power tools just to change the names of presets to something more recognisable? (by lookinging up a table and doing search and replace?) Is this redundant now that we have a nice description that comes up on the program page?

And what exactly does the renderer do? Does it render audio? or graphics? or something else?

Sorry to be annoying - I just want to have an idea what these tools actually do before spending time reading through manuals and setting them up.

Thanks

Hi John,

You got it right for Power Tools.

Renderer is a command-line tool that enables you to render your tracks using one or more presets. The output of the files is rendered in 32 bits.

NRGUI is a very nice gui app that uses Renderer, it makes the use of Renderer much more friendly and it has a cool Windows gui.

I hope this helps you!

Have fun with Nebula!

Thanks a lot for your reply Eric ;-)

So that's just like bouncing a track in your sequencer - isn't it?

Yep, it's pretty much a bouncing utility outside of your sequencer (the renderer itself is command line and there's also a GUI for it).

Why would you want to bounce a track outside your sequencer?

Because if you own AlexB console libraries you'd want to render all your files from your project directory with Line/Mic programs before starting your mix so they'll all sound like if you recorded them thru a real S*L 4000E or A*I 1068, etc.

Oh - I get it. Just render that way rather than putting nebula on each track and bouncing it. That makes sense now!
I *knew* there had to be a good reason for the tool. ;)

Hi :D

With Nebula Power Tools you can in fact modify program description (not program name) - one by one one or many at once.

Won't this be better when we get some sort of definitive list of what's what?

You got it right, it will be better then. Purpose of this tool is also to create this definitive list. This is an important task for Nebula community. Everyone can participate and make descriptions for some Nebula programs + 3rd party libraries.

At the end, we will put everything together and make definitive list for everyone.

Am I correct in saying that you can't see the description in the LIST view, only in the PROG view? So what would be the point of modifying the descriptions, as you can't choose programs by reading through a list of the descriptions in List view?

Can't we have an option to (mass) change category or PROG name?

Sorry if I've got any of this wrong.
Thanks

I should say that, above, I'm talking about Power Tools.
