hardware freq response checker?

Postby Cupwise » Wed Apr 18, 2012 9:41 pm

ok i have a question which is related to sampling but not about NAT itself.

does anyone know of some good options for measuring the frequency response of a hardware loop? so something basically like vst analyser but for hardware?

i've been using a custom fl studio project where i've loaded some noise that's flat across frequency spectrum, sending it out and back in, and looking at it with voxengo's SPAN.

it works but i'd like something a little more accurate.

why should it not be accurate, when you use good converters and good measurementsoftware (or plugins)?
system 1: windows 8 32 bit - samplitude prox, tracktion6, reaper
system 2: mac osx yosemite - reaper(32+64bit), tracktion6(32+64bit)

both systems on: macbook pro (late 2009), core 2 duo 3,06 ghz, 4 gb ram, graphic: nvidia geforce 9600M GT 512 MB

i don't quite get what you are saying.

i'm asking for software (plugin or standalone) that can handle this, that would be MORE accurate than SPAN.

either more accurate than span, or easier to use for that purpose. a standalone thing like vst analyser would be great, because to use span for this purpose i need a host to load first then load span inside it, then i need to have my own noise .wav to run out and back in.

i want software that is designed to analyze a hardware loop. like vst analyser but for hardware.

basically, i just don't like span for this purpose. i want something else that can do it.

Hi Cupwise ...

hmm ... not sure if this would be useful to you, but there is a free program called REW that we use to shot the rooms with. It includes a calibration feature [loopback] that allows one to measure their audio card.

Again, not sure if this app would be useful to what you need. If so, it's over at the 'Home Theatre' site.

ah ok. now i understand what you are after.
REW from home theater shack is one great solution and it is donationware.
there is an option for vst analyzer to use it in an hardwareloop. it has a little tool for routing to a soundcard and back in, on the website of christian, who wrote vst-analyzer.
look here:
http://www.savioursofsoul.de/Christian/ ... utilities/

it is called "VST interfaced ASIO-Host"
maybe you have it already, it is part of the vst-analyzer package.

wow, ok, thanks!
i didn't know you could use it that way, that's perfect.

took me a while, too. :D

it is not perfectly stable and may require a restart from time to time.
you need to load it as plugin in the vst plugin analyzer
good luck,
