Quick test with NAT. Can you tell which is hardware?

Postby Stolle » Thu May 13, 2010 3:01 am

Hi guys!

I recently got a re-amp box so I decided to sample my H&K Tubeman guitar preamp. I think it actually turned out quite nice. I just used the regular distorted mic pre 5k smooth2 template.

I quickly ran a pre-recorded guitar through the real hardware chain and made a quick comparison. I figured I might just as well share it with you and see if you can tell which is which.

So, here we go. Entirely un-scientific.
Guitar dry: http://www.parentes.nu/FunkGitDry.wav
Guitar 1: http://www.parentes.nu/FunkGit1.wav
Guitar 2: http://www.parentes.nu/FunkGit2.wav

There you go. One is the hardware and one is Neb. Can you tell them apart? Is guitar 1 or guitar 2 the hardware?

Have fun! :D

If this works I'm gonna sample my crybaby wah-pedal. That could be fun.

I'm at work, so not on monitors, just on regular speakers but...the difference is really small, I'm not sure which is which but #2 has a slightly different (to my ears more pleasant) sound on a few of the more audible pick attacks.

git1 is the hardware.

at first i thought it had a fuller tone, but then noticed it had a ground hum at about 50hz missing from git2. i am not sure if this is making it sound 'fuller' :) or if its the sampling.

they are indeed close. hope you release the final version ;)

PS git1 is also 0.4dB louder, so turn it down for accurate test.
