Audio drops in Reaper

Postby fpoitevin » Mon Mar 12, 2012 1:06 am

Mac OS10.6.8 - Reaper 4.151 - Nebula Reverb Server VST in local mode
Only one Nebula Reverb instance inserted in the Master FX section in Reaper.
No other plugin in the project.
During playback, I've got some audio drops and clicks when I just select the different pages PROG, KERN, MAST,... or when I move a slider in Nebula. I tried to add the PROTECTIONDB line in the XML file. It doesn't change anything.
If I add another Nebula Reverb instance in any track, I don't have the problem on this instance if "Anticipative FX processing" is checked in the buffering Preferences in Reaper, but still have the problem in the master FX section. If I uncheck it, I've got the problem in the master instance AND in the track instance.
What I tried without any success:
- change each parameter in Reaper's Preference -> Audio,
- Changing the DSPBuffer from 256 to 2048
- Changing the GUI rate up to 100ms
- forcing the buffer in the Device preference in Reaper from 256 to 2048. The problem almost disappears at 2048 if the buffer in Reaper is also forced at 2048. But in this case, the response time is way too long : maybe 1sec between the slider movement and the audio result ...
Really need help.
Thank's in advance

Try this:
ASIO Buffer: 1024
Reaper Buffer: 1024
Nebula Reverb DSPBUFFER: 2x 1024 = 2048
Nebula Reverb GUI rate: 40 ms

I'm on MAC. No ASIO driver I think.?.?
I tried :
DSPBuffer at 2048
GUI at 40 ms
Request Block Size 1024 on Reaper (Is there another parameter called exactly "buffer" in Reaper ?)

I get no drops when clicking on the PROG, KERN, MAST,... buttons, but still have drops when moving any slider (input, output gain, freq, etc...)

Same problem on my MAC Pro and MacBook (same Reaper / Nebula versions on both).

Try unchecking the option "Close audio device when stopped and application is inactive" in Preferences- Audio

I've already tried it without any success, even with the new settings proposed by Enrique above.

Ok, here are the informations:

AA Product : Nebula 3 server
OSX 10.6.8
Version 1.3.502
Ram: 6Gb
GPU : none
Reaper 4.151 (32bits)
Audio interface : RME fireface 400
Reaper buffer : forced to 1024

Same problem with Reaper V3.78
Same problem with Nebula AU, VST or Reverb
Same problem on Mac Pro or MacBook (both 10.6.8, same Nebula and Reaper versions)

Same problem without the Fireface 400 and only internal sound.

I attached a short video showing the problem (audio drops when I just change the frequency of an EQ, with gain = 0). I made it quickly with a demo version of ScreenFlow. Sorry for the text in front...

Increase DSPbuffer to 8192 (in Nebula Reverb) -> SAVE -> Quit and restart Reaper : No change...
