Reaper Application Error crash with NEBULA

Postby RJHollins » Mon Jun 04, 2012 7:39 am

Alright ... been having serious issues involving Reaper v4.22 and NEBULA server [latest].

I've just posted to the Reaper site, and since Nebula is involved, I thought to post here ...cause I don't know what to do.

Recently I've been directed to Windows XP 'Event Viewer' and located my 2 latest crash events. This is what I have from the 2 crashes:

I been to the Microsoft site, but see nothing that would help. I'm at a total loss as to what, if anything, these reports mean, nor what to do about it.

I can say that the error doesn't happen every time ... but it is enough times that serious affect any work.

Please ... if I can provide more info. let me know.

I really hope for a solution.

Thank you for your time, and look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

RJHollins

Please ensure that your are running Reaper as administrator. Enable Nebula .LOG and send us. We will try to find where is the issue.

I see it is "reaper_host32.exe" crashing. Are you running Nebula 32bit in REAPER 64bit or Nebula 32bit firewalled (bridged) in REAPER 32bit?

Hi Mercado,

All apps are 32bit with XP-32bit.
I use Nebula Server as a normal plugin.

In Reaper, I run Neb as 'a separate process' ... actually tried them all, at least the single plug crashes, yet many times I have to close the app and start over. :(

help.

OK ... Still having crashes in Reaper

What I, finally, did was do the SP3 upgrade to Windows XP Pro [32], just in case something was at issue. No Change

Firing up Reaper, load 1 Nebula ... I can audition through 3 or 5 diferent libs ... and then, error message.

With the first couple of crashes, I can usually remove Nebula, and then add it again ... eventually, it will take Reaper down to a desktop crash after error message.

What the heck is going on !!

I cannot work with this at all.

I've posted on the Reaper site [Bug section] ... no reply.

OK, let's see. First of all, you don't need to run the server to take advantage of RAM savings, the plug-in itself does the job (the server application should be used if the user needs to connect two computers via LAN or something, i.e, it isn't necessary in your case, forget about that, just run Nebula inside REAPER). Now, I understand you may want to run Nebula as a separate process to avoid the RAM limitation in XP32bit but you should also keep in mind that running a plug-in in a separate process makes REAPER run all plug-ins (or Nebula instances, in your case) in the same process which, at some point, ends up running out of RAM because of the limitations per-process in a 32bit environment. My advice, run only Nebula, forget about the server. Run Nebula in "dedicated processes". It will take more CPU because each instance will use a new process but if one of those Nebulas crash, the rest and REAPER will stay (or at least, that's what should happen).

I moved to Win7 64bit because I had tons of problems (BSOD's, crashes, hangs, etc.), while running Nebula in REAPER. Please move to Win7 64bit. I asure you, all these headaches will go away and the performance and stability will increase a lot. A 32bit OS is not good when you try to run RAM hogs like Nebula, trust me, I've been there.

Cheers

Hi Mercado,

Thanks for checking my thread. But I'm now confused ...

I bought the Neb Server for the memory sharing feature, but I've not yet added addition computers to network ... but that is the plan!

I thought I was doing this correctly loading up Nebula ... I load it just like any other plugin. I only use the Nebula-reverb flavor. I've not done anything different.

As for system overload ... a current project has at least 20 instances running.

The TEST that I'm doing involves just 1 instance of Nebula. I'm most certainly not even denting my current configuration.

With this 1 Neb, I start auditioning the vast library ... after the 5th or 6th audition loading could be problem.

Another thing I've noticed !!!

It seems the very first time I load a newly purchased/installed library ... it seems that it will crash Nebula/Reaper ... especially the very first time. The next time it's loaded is usually fine. That's weird

Anyway, I didn't have this issue with NebPro3 ...

Another thing ... I don't find any issues with Zabs' RenderMan app. I could have 20 Nebs inserted no problem.

If I'm doing something wrong ... somebody please slap some sense into me !

Sincerely.
