AITB programs 0db or -18 input gain staging?

Postby zq0ne537 » Mon May 21, 2012 7:03 pm

Hey guys,
Anybody know what levels we should be inputting into Nebula for AITB programs for proper gain staging? I posted at AITH and got no reply form anyone there? What are you guys using as input level? Any help at all would be nice.
Thanks

0 dB is a relative value. Use -18 dBFS as a normalization value if your audio file has less than 17 dB of dynamic range. Do not use 0 dBFS that is distortion = audio kaput!

Okay but my question is: what does AITB calibrate for 0VU? Since some developers use -18dBFS and others have used -20dBFS if I recall correctly it's a fair question that doesn't seem to be covered in any of their manuals (although I only looked in one or two to be fair but didn't see that info in either).

Best Quote ever. This forum needs a "sticky" function.

In fact, I am thinking that "Audio Kaput" would make an excellent band name......

AITB is a German company should be EBU r-68 = -18 dBFSD.

I would like to believe it is more correct to say -18 dBFS RMS?

I'm glad I'm not the only one confused by this. They do not state this in any of there manuals.

Thanks for your answer Enrique. Kaputs! that's classic! However, it would be nice to get a definite answer on this. As "should be" indicates you are not 100% sure. I wish ATIB where more helpful with this. There's a couple more programs I wanna get form them and this is a lil frustrating. :?
