Transparent EQ ?

Postby Williamn » Mon Jan 10, 2011 3:06 pm

Hey guys.

What would you say is the best and most transparent EQ out there?

I already own MBQ, Mammoth, Pultec.. but im looking for one I can use when I have a mix im happy with and just want to add some gentle high end without adding lots of extra color.

Any suggestions ?

hi William

i use for exactly this the VMQ from alexb.
just take the hi-shelfe adjust it to 10k and give it about 1db gain! this does the job perfect, wonderful colour :)

but its not what i would say "transparent". transparent is imo without colour, and the vmq has a lot of it ;)

cheers Pascal

Hey brp, thanks for the reply !
I made a mistake and wrote "with color" instead of "without color" hehe.

But I will look into it.. actual I do not mind the color if its gentle, but I don't know.. stuff like the MBQ seems to sculpt the sound a bit too much when going through it.

I'm not sure I understand. By what you are asking, Mammoth is a tremendous tool at the task of sounding great and being transparent, and you own it already! You have already what you are looking for ;)

Using only H1 (first kernel) EQ still works but with out add non lineal distortion.

I would also suggest the Nice eq by CDSoundmaster. If you go to the hardware website you see that it is reviewed as something spectacularly transparent but still having harmonic content. It is transformerless- this library is also available as an aquavox plugin!

well, then try it with the mammoth. if you dont get the results you're after, you probably looking after the sound of the vmq and vice versa..

Read this twice

Any eq that doesn't change the rest of the spectrum too much can sound transparent in this way.
