Alex B and AITB - Mix Demo

Postby Plec » Sat Dec 11, 2010 3:33 am

A song from a Swedish bands album I mixed and mastered pretty recently here.

Alex B's CLC (S*L 4000E) console was used across the board. Line programs for all channels, 4 bus programs and 1 fx return program plus the mix bus clean program.

Compression on the mix bus was the AITB Fate Compressor (N**e 2254) which is the sound the whole mix is based on. If you just put it on at the end and have it work, you're very lucky. I found this is a piece you MUST mix through from the start to make it work. At least for this type of fast paced stuff but it has this gorgeous sound and glue when you get it right IMO.

For EQ there's Alex B's low shelf from the GMC console boosting some boom at 60Hz plus the Black Mastering EQ (A*I 5500) adding some grit and attitude at 3k. (Thx seb) ;)

Would've loved to do the whole mix with Nebula EQ, but I got into that too late. :(

Well, hope you enjoy the work. Cheers! :)

Hey Plec,

sounds very good!

A little bit too squashed (compression) for my taste ...

But it rocks right in your face (and your butt ;) )

PS: great guitar sound!
PPS: could be my speakers but a little bit more low end would be nice.

Hehehehe had a listen to it and if you hadn't written it I'd have guessed the band was swedish - very soilwork-ish riffing, but way more organic. I like it alot, good job in all aspects.
Release on master compression is a *bit* slow (though it might be the compression characteristics itself) - but as you wrote - the entire mix seems to be built around the FATE compression. It's pumping quite noticeably, but in a very very organic way. Don't change anything ! Thumbs up !

Sounds great! What chain did you use for the guitars?
