alexb 96k libraries and a 44.1k project?

Postby ericzang » Fri Nov 19, 2010 1:46 am

Hello, please excuse the noob question, I couldn't find an answer in the search yet. I'm considering getting an AlexB library, which appear to be at 96k, but what is the ideal recommended procedure when working in a 44.1k project?

I know nebula has an internal SRC, so maybe that is fine to just let it do its process?

I have r8brain pro, convert all the samples to 44.1k?

Wait till my mixing is done, then upsample project to 96k?

Thanks!

Hi,

In the 'mast' page in the GUI there's a variable called 'RATE CNV'. Here you can fill in the amount of milliseconds Nebula can use to convert a preset sample rate to the project sample rate. For most presets 3000(000) will be enough, although for some reverbs I need to use higher settings. You can check if the sample rate conversion is correct on the 'prog' page. Here you will see a blinking arrow if the sample rate conversion is not working properly. If it is working you should see 96000 > 44100

BTW If you change a variable, you have to press 'save' and close Nebula and re-open it for the change to have effect. Or you can change it directly in the XML file before opening Nebula

Cheers

Great, thanks so much! Indeed the flashing arrow disappeared after I changed RATE CNV from default 25 to 3000. So that's it, ready to go in 44.1k right? Perhaps only the next best thing might be to upsample my project to 96k and work there?

You're good to go :) For various reasons I actually changed my project sample rate to 96K after switching to Nebula, of course then Nebula needs to convert any 44.1 or 48 presets to 96 in the same way. Also handy to know is that it's possible to make more instances of Nebula with different setting to suit your needs, explained here

Hmmm have any of you noticed after re-opening a project, the arrow is blinking and there's no conversion? I just noticed this with the latest version. If I keep the project open, close Nebula only, re-open an instance of Nebula it converts just fine. Close the project, come back into it and check it, it's blinking again with no conversion. Odd.

I can't reproduce that here with v1.3.445 64/32-bits, REAPER 64/32-bits, Windows 7 64-bits. I work at 48kHz and all programs are properly converted when I load my projects. I'm using a CNV of 7000ms and a LFREQD of 7 seconds in Nebula Reverb version.

Did you try it with a higher CNV?

Yep I did, I tried the max even 9000. Strange behavior, may be related to Sonar, again.
