S*L Channel E-EQ Blind Test Waves v.s. CLeQ

Postby vicnestE » Thu Aug 12, 2010 3:22 pm

With the new filters added in CLeQ, I try it out immediately.

File link:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9609516/S*L%20HPF%20Blind%20Test.rar

Source file is a drumloop.
I added some other EQs with the ability to do the same 18dB/oct HPF at 300Hz.

CLeQ and Waves S*L E-channel EQ are the blind test subjects.
CLeQ: the full 3Kernels HPF preset is used.
S*L E-channel EQ: dynamic bypassed, analog switch on.
Equality: analog phase is used.
Oxford EQ: in mode1
A,B are in almost the same loudness.

It's amazing with only one 18dB/oct 300Hz HPF could produce so many different sound with different EQs.

Have a guess and tell us why you prefer it.
Answer will be announced 1 or 2 weeks later.

By the way, you are welcomed to upload other S*L emulation using the "96KHz drumloops clean.wav" with the same settings.

A lets through more bass than any other so it makes it hard to compare.
I actually like B the most. It has a certain punch in the snare that I like. To my ears B has that classic AlexB punch in the snare so I'd guess it's Nebula. But I could be mistaken.

1. CLEQ (best) (nice filter, nice punch)
2. S****x EQ and EQuality (nice filter, no punch)
3. Waves S*L (less nice filter, some odd punch)

B is the only version that has a real analog 3D feel... ;)
