AlexB's VBQ vs Waves 550A (terminated due to new VBQ release

Postby vicnestE » Fri Jul 30, 2010 10:21 am

I was trying some 96KHz rendering to avoid aliasing.
Here's a original drumkit with only volume and pan. And I applied A*I EQ to the drum bus to compare Waves 550A and VBQ.

The settings:
50Hz LS 4dB
800Hz -2dB
7KHz HS 4dB

Waves 550A with Analog on.
VBQ with 1 normal and 2se programs to avoide over color.
The 2 files are now in the same loudness now for fair comparison. Waves 550A tends to be louder than VBQ.

File format: 96KHz 24bit

Please tell me which one you like more and which one you think is VBQ. Thank you.

The answer will be announced about 10 days later. 8-)

Note: Sorry for the blank in front of each file, you can try nulling the two files and get some hint.

Please wait a day and do the same test with the new release of VBeQ which is without serial-aut, better sound, less cpu load and more presets ;)

I find A a bit weaker in lows, but has a more open bright sound.
B has more low punch, but a bit darker.

I have no idea which is which.

I like A better, cause the snares have a better crack.

A has better dynamics
B sounds strained

I´m pretty sure A is Nebula.

A is spontaneously good. As in "analog"
B has a weird intransparent droning around 200-600 cycles, so I guess it's the Waves one.

OK I will change the test later.
Good job :)

And I should tweak the snare a little bit, it's quite annoying to me indeed.

By the way, how do you improve the sound??
