The 38j is a great match for the ACC or A16, the two A*I consoles we have from CDSoundMaster and AlexB.

Don't know much about the original machine... Is this a tracking/mixing tape to use on single tracks or more of a mastering tape?

It was a 4-track machine for recording.

Yes, some audio examples would be nice to hear.

Does this mean necessary for all stereo mixes or material? What is evf?

I think it means... each Nebula instance, if used in stereo, will work. It's just that you'll get L/R of the same single mono track response of the deck for each side... though you'll still get your original stereo track. Just each side processed the same.

If you wanna use it like a real deck... you'd need to use two instances of Nebula, one for one track of the deck for the left side of your stereo track, and another for the response of different deck track for the right side of your stereo file... to get two differing responses, as in left and right true stereo tape deck processing (the different responses each analog deck track would naturally have).

I think that's it. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes correct,

Same goes for all compressors or any dynamically sampled presets in nebula. you are essential detecting loudest parts and applying the same changes on each side.

I have requested Stereo evf in the past....

This 'dual instance' is very easy to accomplish with Plogue BIDULE [chainer] for example.
