Unfortunally (talking for mac-only users) there's no mac version of VTM.
PSP Audioware MixSaturator does a good job too for fine tweakings.
There's no need for the more expensive Nomad Factory's Magnetic or Waves' Kramer Tape.
I'd like to try VTM, anyway...

Ah yeah, I forgot about OS X. Hopefully they will get that ported someday.

I do own VTM and it is great :D , but would still rather bounce to tape for that thing .Of course What ever is done it's never going to sound exactly right. If nebula could work a little quicker it would be closer.Nebula is the best plugin I've ever come across and all the developers are great.
I believe that tapes in nebula and tape booster are close to the real thing , the imaging and depth are maintained .I don't use any algo plugins anymore because I cant stand the way they flaten the sound.

We are working on the Mac port.
It is going slow, but we are working on it and making progress.

I know this is no VTM, but this compressor beats the heck out of Ferox, Ferric, and Magnetic (I don't like these ones at all) for doing tape compression:

I put it after Nag tape on the master and tried the Tape Saturation preset, lowered threshold to zero and instant happy!

You do need to tweak the frequency ratios to avoid some weird distortions, but it's worth it IMHO.
