consoles...Consoles...CONSOLES

Postby ngarjuna » Tue Jun 15, 2010 3:11 am

Someone was asking about the differences between some of the consoles on a different forum. After some fiddling about with insufficient adjectives I decided to do a quick render comparing some of them.

Each track is run through two input stages and a buss by group; normally there would be a tape program / saturation programs in between the two input stages but I left those off so that all you're hearing are the consoles. The Vanilla track is not run through any console or preamp emulation. All CDSoundmaster consoles are run using the EQ-enabled variants.

Can you point to that thread? Would like to read the descriptions.

Only have my Bose headphones at the moment and the differences are very subtle.

Thanks for pulling this test ! Looks like I underestimated the role of those console programs. The API1608 (modern) and the Rupert N**e (clean) fits the material the best imho. Interested in the S*L 4000 obviously, so keep it coming !

Definitely a matter of taste, if I had to choose just one (which has not been my m.o. lately) I would probably go with the T*****t on this. I am very impressed with the T*****t I see myself using that a lot.

But really there are things about all four of these consoles that I dig.

I don't know if it's the sound samples or what I'm listening on (Bose noise cancelling headphones), but I'm having a harder time than I'd like telling the differences between the consoles.

I think I'd definitely fail a blind test.

Can anyone take a shot at giving a short description of the "sound" that each console is used for and typically what genre music it is most closely related with?

Still need to buy Bogen and Custom British from CDSoundmaster. I'll get to them shortly.
