I have a question which I think most of you can probably answer in seconds.
I have never worked on a real console hence the question.
I have a couple of Alex B's consoles and bought the MFC which I love. It says in the manual to put the group buss instance of Nebula as the last entry in the effects change. but in the manuals for the other consoles it doesn't stipulate first or last for the group busses.
I am not challenging it... I assume its correct and that is what I should be doing with all console products?
I just want to understand why... my limited knowledge tells me it should be the first effect, but as I said "limited", can someone explain?

Also, I know there are no rules and if it sounds good then do it but I just want to understand the reasoning... thanks

As far as consoles go here are my thoughts...

If you want to use them as if you were tracking, then the console is the last plugin on the strip.

If you want to use it as if you were mixing with outboard gear them there should be one instance at the beginning -> a Send instance -> other plugs (compressor, eq, etc...) -> a Send instance and maybe another instance of the line input.

It might be a little extreme but I believe that's how consoles work in the real world.

That's interesting (the way/position you have the send instance in the Neb chain for each trk). I never thought of doing it that way, but it kinda makes sense. I usually have a line in instance (this is mixing you understand) first of all and then other instances of EQ and compression afterwards. If I then send stuff to a grp trk, I'll use the grp instane at the top of that (I don't actually have the MFC, but I have the 8014 desk).

Thank you both for your repies, although I am a bit confused.

this is how I used to work...
The line in neb instance as the first effect on my tracks, then other effects/ vst etc
route the tracks to their respective groups and again install the group buss instance as the first effect, followed by VST etc.
then out to the stereo out and the neb masterbuss instance on that channel.
But as I read the MFC manual, (and I might be misunderstanding) the line in neb instance correctly goes on the 1st effect of the track... BUT the nebula group buss instance goes in the last effects slot on the group, this is where I am confused. HAve I misunderstood the wording in the manual? I imagined I would want the colouring from the group instance before adding other effects to the group...

Scratch that... I just re-read and understood jpchartrand comments. I think it makes sense to me now. I was working as Russianpolecat stated (I think) but it was the MFC manual that made me think twice. Never the less what jpchartrand has said about tracking and mixing withoutboard gear makes sense. thanks for your help

We live in a glorious era of audio- the convenience and power of digital audio, and some of the most amazing technology for hardware emulation and "vibe". If it sounds good, it's good. If your ears love the way a very unorthodox virtual signal chain sounds, then go make music with your signal chain!

The way to emulate the desk described in the MFC manual is the right for ALL consoles.

It seems that more info I give at the user and more doubts the user builds...
