So the sidecar is his own crafting of a N**e class AB front end and class A Mixbuss? Sounds versatile.
If bystanders don't mind a rant, I'd like to explain two reasons my tiny bit of cash went to what I bought.
1. Like light to a kaleidoscope: Take reverb for instance: it already fragments your audio into a million pieces. Running your signal through Preamp Colors & Saturation PRO gets those million pieces to sound based off (this list of what AlexB extracted):
So it's quite apparent with those flavors (which take EQ very well), it makes everything downstream better, including great reverb.
2. Endangered species/Backup plan: Some of those gems of yesteryear are on borrowed time, the tubes, capacitors and transistors of old won't be around forever, and even newer equipment blows out from time to time. Since all of those preamps are in any self-respecting studio anyway, it's a backup plan if a preamp on the list has a bad hair day and you need 99.9% of the flavor while repair options can be worked-out.
This is my reasoning, if you only had about $30 US and haven't bought any 3rd-party libraries (disclaimer: I've only tried what AlexB made available for testing purposes other than this), but I'm blown away by it and currently making presets based on historically successful signal chains.
Add a Henry Olonga U47, U67 and U87 and rejoice Sonic bliss for under $50. I'm a pauper and I ponied-up
