SILK EQ

Postby Tim Petherick » Tue Jul 16, 2013 6:51 pm

The SILK EQ Nebula Library is sampled from an vintage EQ that has become very popular in recent years. The hardware is known for it’s rich low boost, smooth top end and broad sound… so boosting in large amounts with this library is not a problem!
I sampled the low and high shelf in one program, which gives you better results by cutting down on instances and creates better band interaction (plus cutting down on conversion in’s and outs) . Basically the EQ is fully emulated using two instances of nebula and the Low/High Shelf and Mid boost/cut programs.

I came up with a new sampling technique to ensure more accuracy on the transient. This new sampling method greatly reduces the smear and harshness that sometimes occurs during the sampling stage, preserving the highs much better than ever before (it also means that I had to edit around 700 samples manually to complete the library!!). The original unit was serviced here at the workshop by one of the finest analog engineers (ex Peter Gabriel) prior to sampling!!!!

You can buy the library in 4 sample rates-44.1 , 48 , 88.2 ,96 (that’s NOT re-sampled!), every sample rate is the real deal.. the same as my TNT Dynamics and Cal Dl1656 libraries.

Indeed it is but this does offer it's differences :)

I will be concentrating on more retro gear before any of the one's you mention. Some very nice things are going to be released sortly!

Although I would love to do the Cr*nesong!!

My small list is something like this.

J37
c*mpex
60's germanium comp
plate's
D*x
Some great mini releases too

the demo sounds great!

How much better would it be for me to buy multiple sample rates rather than just buy the 96 and use it for everything. I know it's already cheap but i am planning on buying a few other libraries soon too and it all adds up. Especially when your recording your own band for free(free to them anyways)

One of the things I love about Nebula is having multiple high quality libraries of different units of the same make and model. Not that anyone is ever going to discern that level of detail from my work or derive happiness from it, but I will! The way the price rises on these old Siemens the chances that I'll have 3 of them (1 would be super!) in my rack is very small. Can't wait to kick the tires on this one.

I've updated the demo to all sample rates, so you can a/b.

Nice, thank you for updating the demos. I was testing older version with initial settings in low output level.

Hmmmm, I wonder why it was low level?! Maybe I didn't save the demo properly. I tested and saw it was at the correct level. I guess Nebula might of been saving to ram and I had duplicate instance up at the time of testing.....

Oh well it's ok now which is the main thing.
