Cal Dl1656 vca Limiter release UPDATE 27/02/14

Hello,

This is the first part of a two part release of the cal dl1656.This is the peak limiter side of the unit.

This essentially is a program dependant limiter. I had to change a few things in order to get it to work like the hardware. I don't think there are many compressors or limiters that have achieved this before, that is the slow release at low gain reduction.

Sampled with lucid and mytek convertors at 44.1, 48 , 88.2 , 96

Sampled in stereo.Mono presets are in the pack too.

Originally I was going to sample the germanuim compressor, this will come later. This unit is super clean for analog, if you want clean limiting this is a good example of that. The unit has a very nice two stage capacitor release function with allows better musicality at longer release times (taking a look inside the unit, they covered the release part of the circuit in this plastic gloop, I guess at the time they thought they were on to something with the release function that they needed to keep it a secret) . However this proved very hard to capture because its so program dependent. So came up with a way to get similar results to the unit but will never be exact on slow release settings as the hardware

new update:27/02/14

dry/through for parallel compression,

improved metering

more gain reduction

Please note this is a non backward compatible update and is for 1.3.600 and above please backup your original n2p's.

N2p's below

on use , keep buffer to 512 or above (512 is best) if possible and master page ahead to 2.0ms

I just gave it a quick spin. The attack fast and non adjustable. It's not aggressive but it does do very transparent level control. Very nice release Tim!

Yes , overall it's very transparent. My mytek convertors really helped to get the cleaness of the unit right. It's not like a plugin clean, its dimensional and transparent.

No attack on the unit for the limiter.

The compressor has attack switch but both attack modes are very fast. This will be included in the next release, Probably interpolated to cut down on presets.

No demo for the limiter but for the musical compression side of the unit I will do a demo.

Are you asking for an audio demo to hear what it does, or a feature-limited demo preset?

Audio demo (before/after) to show how transparent it is please.

Ok I'll make a audio demo. But I'm not around my computer till tomorrow.

Cheers,

I was asking for a functional demo. When something is transparent, an audio demo tells you nothing.
