Look at my DIY DI-Box!

Postby tunca » Thu Dec 27, 2012 10:52 pm

Hi,

I built new DI-Box and i will sample it but first i want to share sound samples.

Cause i built it in different way.Even output is unbalanced(i will add balanced, too).

Just i used trafo(only 2$ ) and wires.But result really surprised!

When i done,i will sample and share.

Please listen and tell me what you think.

BTW there is no any effect! And recorded with onboard soundcard

Hi!
Very interesting! The DI-version of the wav file: the sound is more open, the highs are much clearer/defined and have more sustain.

Do you mind posting pictures of the DI-box and the list of components? Is it difficult to build it?

Cheers

It's the schema  Actually i wanted to build ground loop isolator. But i built DI-box.

And it's the trafo; Atech-ATS279

But i didn't add resistors and capacitors for now. It's only trafo with Earth Lift.I'm tring to improve...

Thanks

It's great that your building, everyone should IMHO. (Some DI recommendations if interested) that transformer seems to be a matching 1:1 transformer. Not a good for a step down DI in the traditional view.
Your box will functional as a great little coloring box to place inline with your signals tho.
Traditional "DI's" use a 12:1 or so transformer to bring down the line level to a mic pre friendly signal. Here are some optimal designs http://www.jensen-transformers.com/apps_sc.html

Yes,actually it's not DI but it's really colorful and clear.I think i can use it with mic preamp(output),too. It's cleaning signal.Especially it's removing hum and adding brightness to signal. It's pretty simple and effective. But i think i have to add a capacitor to remove hiss.I will improve this circuit...
