Hi Guy's ,

just to make sure everyone is using recommended settings.

Recomended settings are 128 buffer
88.2khz sample rate
1ms program rate

You should be getting fast attack this way

more Compressors will come after the release of the rap eq.

Thanks

Tim

it is still a question for me, why the buffersize influences the compressoraction.
does it influence the kernelswitching?

it would appreciate some insight.

is this something you have exprienced yourself when changing buffer?

It has a effect on all dynamic sampled preset's too not just compressors.

I wish I had a theory as to why it has this effect. If you mod the xml down to 64 samples you get an even quicker attack. I'm not advising anyone to start messing with the xml, just giving an example.

i never changed my buffer to lower settings, to save cpu.
i don't need realtime and my daw compensates for the latency.
i work with the long buffer (something like 8192), which nebula reverb always had in the past, all the time.

this is the first time, that i hear, that buffersettings really change the sound.

i don't really like the fact, cause now i have to experiment again.

would be great, if giancarlo could elaborate on that matter, so we know a little more, what it is about.

Did you try it?
I may have to post some examples to show the change in attack and gain reduction using lower buffer settings

had no time to test, but i sure will, to find out about that.

thanks for pointing me to this

will post my findings, when done.

greetings,

i did a test with focuscomp on a basstrack in a project at 48khz sr.

prograte set down to 1 ms.(normally it is at 2 ms)
attack on focuscomp set to 1.
with 128 smpl buffer it catches attacktransients pretty good and consistent, with 8192 smpl buffer it lets transients slide through, which sounds crackling.

a test before with prograte at 2ms gave identical results on both buffersizes.

ok, now i have heard it. but it is still a question to me, why the buffersize influences this.
any ideas, anyone?

i have to correct me:
even at 2 ms prograte, there is a clear difference at different buffersizes with focuscomp.
faster, more consistent attack behaviour, with lowest buffer (128).

and the story goes on:
with vm-comp/limiter from eric, it sounds more balanced and a little more even with the long buffersize.

but this refers more to the release, to my ears.

so now i have to experiment with buffers too, on compressors - in addition to evfs.

maybe i go back to algo comps and load some nebulacolors before it, this is just too unpredictable
