KultComp - Nebula vs. Hardware!

Postby Gemini Audio » Sun Aug 12, 2012 10:56 pm

I've just made a quick AB test for you. KultComp Nebula program vs. the original Hardware. I compressed a finished mix with 10dB gain reduction.

Who can spot the Hardware?
Have fun!

I suspect A is the hardware. the reason I think this is because the highs are clearer - B sounds a little dull to my ears. I hear this most in the passage at the end where the hi hats become prominent. For me its really in the highs that I can hear a difference...not huge - but it makes A sound more effortless - and B sound closed. would be cool if Im wrong tho!

Quite close in general compression behaviour. Im curious at what sample rate the test was run - and if that might make a difference to the high end...

I did the test in 44.1. It was sampled in 96 though. The settings might not be 100% identical. One of both has a bit more attack. I didn't have much time for the test but i think it sounds pretty close and i wanted to share that with you. Don't forget, it's 10 dB of gain reduction.

so the Kultcomp is sampled @ 96k? It would be interesting to hear the sametest at that sample rate...yes I could see more of a transient peak on one of the examples which must be sharper attack...

Yes it is pretty close - nice work! If you are going to demo I would take some time to get it as perfect as possible! :D

I take it the kultcomp is a mastering/bus processor compressor - so maybe the type of useage would be 3-4db gain reduction max....?

What you describe (closed and dull) is what you get when working @ 44.1 with 96 programs.
