From what I understand, the old stepped versions would use exact samples of the unit, whereas now all the in between stages are calculated by Nebula?

No not necessarily. Quality of interpolation is contingent on the accuracy, quantity, and meticulousness of the sampling process itself.

It's right. The quality is the same, i.e. better, and you have the possibility to set the gain at 7dB or 10dB or 5dB instead fixed point... I think that it's more useful.

However by listening tests, Nebula still sound excellent until 4-5dB of interpolation (but this is not my case...)

I don't know why but I like fixed points. I know it's me ;-)

I hope to not convert the topic into a interpolated vs step war...
In this case, sonically, they are exactly the same thing. 8-)

MWC-PRO + MWQ-PRO = next week

CLC-PRO + CLQ-PRO = 1st week of June

N**e vintage console + vintage 1073 EQ = 2nd week of June

If my girlfriend doesn't kill me

Tell her to wait until all the PRO versions are done... 8-)

Poor wifes and girlfriends...they're like widows sometimes!

On a more serious note, what will be the N**e vintage console sampled from? Can you tell us?

Tell her you'll release a PRO version of yourself later this year (AXB-PRO).

This should calm her down...
