AlexB Console Routing on Master Bus?

Postby powderfinger » Thu May 06, 2010 3:21 am

Hey guys,
Quick question on the AlexB Console routing...

For the main mix bus, I'm using the MBC MBV console, some effects (bus compression, eq), and mastering grade R2R tapes, so which is the proper routing?

1) MBC MBV -> bus compression and eq -> R2R 30ips tape

OR

2) bus compression and eq -> MBC MBV -> R2R 30ips tape

Obviously there is the age old "whatever sounds best" argument, but I'm looking for the recommended routing as if it were a real console.

Thanks!

well I would say;

Tape first as that would be the source, then the console and finally your compression.

that's the way I'm doing it at the moment.

i would do it like your second example.
summing in the console, compressing and then cutting to tape.

The way I do it is always trying to leave the Master Buss at the end of the chain. To my ears, it always sounds good that way.
