Well ... sure, you can 'use your ears' if you want to ...

However, I find using a mouse or a control surface much more practical :roll:

Returning to the point of the question... yes, setting NEBULAs' INs & OUTs to hit -18dB on the VU's
will put the plug at clean unity gain.

Should you want to use 'level' as a 'creative' element, then you can low or high drive the INPUT. Then set the OUTPUT gain to your cal reference level.

Use ears. I don't trust the red clipping indicator.
