Nebula Server Manual

Postby tas » Fri Apr 27, 2012 9:38 pm

I installed it but no manual. In the documents folder there is only the nebula 3 standard manual, from the previous manual I guess. I also searched the forum and my user area, but could not find one. Does it exist?

Re: Nebula Server - The good news

So I had bought some 3rd party heavy CPU programs. I could not work with them under Nebula3, some were getting round 90%. So I thought CUDA is the way forward. I upgraded to Nebula Server, tried to make it work but never got around it.
What I did notice though is that the same programs now were down to 15% CPU!
Is this how much more efficient the new Engine is or was something wrong with my previous version?

The new engine kicks butt. And the server version, even when not used in a "server" application, utilizes memory sharing, so multiple instances of the same preset will share the memory load. It will still wreak havoc on your CPU, but this IS nebula after all!

It sounds to me like there was something going on with the previous version/installation/something. Server is certainly more efficient but I haven't noticed it to be that much more efficient around here.

Hi!
Don't know about Mac, but this is how it works in PC:

Copy your Nebula3 Server .dll and .xml and rename them (like NebulaSERVER or whatever you please)in both computers. The name must be identical in both machines, both .dll and .xml

Edit the .xml:
In your main machine:
<SERVERADDRESS> (ip of remote server) </SERVERADDRESS>
and in the remote machine:
<SERVERADDRESS> 127.0.0.1 </SERVERADDRESS>

I don't know how to find out the ip address in Mac, but obviously someone in the forum knows about it in case you don't know how to do it.

Check that there's no firewall blocking the server.

This is how it basically goes. I don't use my remote server very often because the engine of Nebula Server is powerful enough for me, so I use it mainly as a local server.

My first machine is 64 Bit and the second one is 32 Bit so it's a little bit more complicated than with two 32 Bit or two 64 Bit machines, but I've got it working anyway, but the advantage is not significant, so like I said, I don't use it very often.

<SERVERADDRESS> 127.0.0.1 </SERVERADDRESS> is local host, it's a loop to use Local Server.

Last version you just need to setup Server (remote computer alone app) and Client (local computer VST plugin). Nebula Server will recall your Nebula Client MAST page from the local computer.

Local <> Client
Remote <> Server
