64-bit performance

Postby woeischris » Tue Oct 05, 2010 6:04 pm

So my new system, an Intel i7 950 with 6GB of RAM, is running Windows 7 x64... with Cubase 5 x86. Is there a significant performance benefit in switching to the 64-bit version of Cubase and therefore Nebula? I know that the 32-bit app is limited to 4GB of RAM but the Windows OS takes about 2 to begin with, so I still should be taking full advantage of my RAM. Am I missing any other performance benefits by not running full 64-bit?

Cubase x64 can load Nebula x64 without a x86/x64 bridge, but you should install x64 version for all yours plugins. If you still use some x86 plugins that are not available in x64 you should still use Cubase x86 and bridge Nebula x64 thru Jbridge or install Cubase x64 and bridge yours old x86 plugins with Jbridge and run Nebula in x64 mode.

we are going to release a "local server" version for this exact purpose. I just don't have enough time for supporting users now, but it's working and it's debugged/stable. We didn't fix the price too.
BTW there is EVEN a pre-release for mac osx SERVER version x64 (yes, you are reading well, 64 bit for mac osx) for a 32 bit mac osx client (so all sequencers are supported)

I've found with WIn7 x64 & Cubase x86 I usually run out of cpu (i7 930 2.8Ghz) around the same time as the 4gb ram limit so presumably this would mean Neb server (on the same machine) wouldn't help me get more instances?

Still eagerly awaiting release as I'm sure my old dual core machine (currently my internet only machine) while not super powerful would make an ok server.

Any idea on a possible release date for it?...how about a pre-release public beta with zero support or guarantee ;)

I'm sure a lot of people are very keen to get their hands on this.
