Nebula 4 Gain Poll

Postby Puranon » Thu Jan 28, 2016 6:54 pm

Is anyone here opposed to having version 4 increase the input gain range to match output gain range (even if it breaks backwards compatibility)?

I don't really understand what you mean, you mean AGC?

Maybe they are referring to the weird behavior that the input and output "knobs" or "faders" in Nebula don't move in the same increments.

I don't bother anything with Gain in Nebula long ago, Metering or Ins and Outs.

Boosting input gain by +18 dB max would be great.

The R2R libraries need to be hit near 0 dBFS to get the right behaviour, so if your track is gain staged at 0 dBVU/-18dBFS you have to raise the input to attack the tape lib, and sometimes 6 dB are not enough.

You can normalize the track (if you print the tape offline) or insert a gain plugin, but doing it directly in Nebula will be more useful.
