We are actually beta testing a release candidate new version (1.3.770)
New features: - New technology on compressors (you need new libraries). - New envelope follower modes (you need to tune manually emulation programs). - Unlocked program rate till two samples if the kernel is short enough. - Improved VU meters in VU mode (mode 7 in MAST page). - Optional disabling truncation of categories to 3 characters (see Nebula MAST page FAQ). - Optional default linear mode for rotary knobs (see Nebula MAST page FAQ). - New skinning modes and tags: transparency background for sliders, reversed behavior for knobs, quantized knobs. (you need new skins). - Extensions: you can control more than 8 sliders form the skin if a program supports that feature (you need new skins).
Bug Fixes: - Several bug fixes. - A lot bug fixes on Acqua Effects and Nebula related with multi-instance feature implemented for Nebula4 and current Acqua Effects.
So re-tuning the 4KD, or 76D libraries from AlexB for instance, wouldn't make any sense? I have noticed a difference back then, when using fast prog rates and evf17 envelope on these libraries. Although it would take some of the authentic sound/behaviour away, it did improve.
yes it improves, but it is a piece of the puzzle. You need to go to 46 usec, and in such case cpu load would be high / if it is possible. Than you can use new envelope follower.
Anyway best results are achieved when - the whole program is tuned, so threshold is fixed by a new math - the whole numeric compressor is tuned using raw vectors - sound is splitted in 2 instances, so the "preamp" one is using LONG kernels and it is featuring distortion.
This gives back the true sound, and the true compression effect. You are in such way decomposing each kernel in two ones, one is moving fast and is changing the gain at incredible speeds, one is featuring a long and complex tail.
About incredible speeds: they are normal for a common algorithmic compressor plugin. But in nebula this is the speed used for the WHOLE vector engine, which is evaluated each 46 microseconds (all funs, all envelope followers, raw vectors, raw funs and so on).
Nebula is a bit like a first person game at 20000 fps
I see this version 770 is now in my Dashboard to install. Is this now released or still in beta? I've never had a beta version appear in my download area before, so I am nervous about installing it if it is not the released version.
