Small question need help with please

Postby scopus » Tue Feb 19, 2013 1:02 am

hi i have some libraries with both 44.1 and 96khz versions but my system is running 44.1 . So is there any advantage to using the 96 soundwise? since looks like it downsamples it to 44.1

thanks

no. just use the 44.1 khz version.

the downsampling will degrade the audioquality in most cases.

A developer once pointed out in another thread that there is a subtle difference between sampling at 96K and 44.1 (in terms of how the signals hit the hardware itself) and that sometimes those differences will be present even after the downsample. Of course, we're talking about subtle differences, but I've noted in past threads that different 44.1K users have different opinions on whether it's better to use the downsampled 96K programs or the 44.1K programs at 44. I would do a listening comparison and see if anything grabs you. For me the difference is not enough to be concerned either way (it seems to mostly be in the very high content which makes sense considering the difference in anti-alias filtering but, for me, it's just a difference in workflow [when it comes to low pass filtering] as opposed to an issue of quality).

Thanks guys, yeh ill try a b'ing them but since the downsample downgrades the quality and very subtle difference think prob best 44.1
cheers
