Network server setup instructions?

Postby woeischris » Sun Sep 18, 2011 8:52 am

Can anyone describe, send, or link? I don't need basic networking instructions, just the Nebula portion.

mathias said this and I made notes
first make sure you have a lan connection between your two computers. on the client machine - where your daw is - edit the "nebula<version>.xml" (or reverb-version if you use that, you find it in your vst-plugin-folder). you find two lines in there, that are related to the server:
<SERVERPORT> 6000 </SERVERPORT>
<SERVERADDRESS> 192.168.1.2 </SERVERADDRESS>
you have to specify the tcp adress of your second computer (above you see mine), leave the port as it is.

on the server machine you need to have an installation of nebula with all the programs.
in the nebulatemprepository, there is a folder called "server". you find the server-versions for 32 and 64 bit os in there. open the xml-file of the serverversion you use and write as serveradress "127.0.0.1".
start the server and open the infopanel (click on the symbol in the taskbar). it will show you if plugin-instances are connected.

go back to the main-machine and start your audioprogram and load nebula. If it works, you should see on the server-infopanel one connected instance.
thats basically what I did, worked like a charm.
The install program really should walk the user through this with a straightforward wizard. maybe that will come some day..
good luck

Another question, should libraries be loaded onto the client or the server? I imagine they should be on the server.

you are right, on the server.
calculations are done on the second machine.

Thanks a lot for this explanation: It has worked perfectly for me.
I have just a question: my server has this ip: 192.168.1.106. I know because I've set this address by myself in my network. But what about "127.0.0.1".
As I told you it's working perfectly, but I would know why? :)

192.168.1.106 is the number your server uses to refer to itself in public.

127.0.0.1 is the number any pc uses to refer to itself internally. Local resources or 'localhost'
