today I tested a different i7 and performances didn't change. It seems like only new cpu will take advantage from the new intel library. I'll keep you updated, we'll start testing it soon

Will an 8 core (2008) mac pro also benefit from it?
As long as the cpu usage of the new server version
is the same as the Nebula 3 Pro that I have now,
than I'm ok; I have no problem with freezing tracks.
The free localserver version for osx
used so much cpu, is it more optimized now?

Hi Giancarlo,
Do these improvements have to do with AVX? If so this would mean only the new Sandybridge CPU will benefit.

yes we measured an improvement on sandybridge. A beta reported the same speed as before on i5. I'm testing nebula using vnxt reverb 5 sec

Good to hear.
I'm on i7 2600ks now, I guess mixing without rendering is no longer dreams.

Will the program loading time be improved due to shared memory?

I opened a 48KHz project with lots of nebula 96KHz library, and it took about 10min to load 4.5G nebula programs on i7, 1600 memory clock, SATA6Gbs raid 0 HD.

speed is the same or even a bit slower because memory should be coaleshed. But performances will be improved cause the memory is cached in a better way

try ssd drives, they will change your life and they are pretty cheap

I'm sure that my observation is not of big significance
but I really think that you need a new icon for NebulaServer.

Something which would make a big statement.

still not 100% clear on this.

will nebula pro users get this great new memory sharing feature, or only server users?

i really hope it's for everyone, i don't fancy trying to make server work with no manual, things are fine as they are! ;)

ipp7 is for everyone. Memory sharing is limited to nebula3 server users. It happens because for many of them this new version outperforms the server version. A server version is still useful if you want to run x64 applications in x86 hosts, or you need network processing. But for mac osx users and many windows users this new version is simply better, so till we introduce new features we'll limit its userbase.
I think we'll upload an experimental version for pc today

You can use NebulaServer as ''normal'' NebulaPro (as Client).
I'v upgraded few day ago and did nothing but added alternative paths to NebulaServer.xml.

Thing is if you open NebulaServer program before opening your host, all of your used nebulas will work in server mode.

If you open your host program (project, song etc.) without
opening NebulaServer program, all of your Nebulas will work
in normal mode (will use xml settings stored in your vst nebula folder as did before upgrading)

I plan to use it on one machine...till the time for new server machine comes
