24 vs 32bit floating

Postby Yllet » Thu Jun 09, 2011 10:24 am

Hi.

When I bounce my nebula projects @ 24/44.1 I can hear a loss in quality using Cubase 5. Is it recommended to bounce to 32 bit floating instead, even if the project is 24 bit? Then import into a 24bit again?

Quite strange. Can you send us a example, we will send to Steinberg. Your are talking about to convert audio signal from 32 bit FLOAT to a 24 bit FIX so you should dither.

I don't think its Nebulas fault, but Cubase. It's not much, but it's there...

I've never noticed any difference in audio after bouncing, but I don't use it much.

Keep your project bit rate unchanged until at the end of your 'mastering' process, at higher bit rates the damage from processing digital audio is sort of minimised. At the very end of the whole process dither to the required bit and sample rate, eg. 16bit 44.1kbps for CD.
At least that's what I do ;)

Cheers,

Mauri.
