I tried changing one to match but still no go.

Just to confuse things further I should perhaps mention that there are also Neb Server (exe) xml files in Nebtemprepositry/server & on these the 32 & 64 magic ID matches & they are both the same as my 32 bit instance xmls.

That said, I am not attempting to run server.

Thanks everyone for your help.

no... magic id is used by some (steinberg) but not all.

So what does this mean for me (working on Steinberg software)
Can I change the magic IDs somehow to make this work?

My initial attempts at renaming one instance suggest not...or do I need to give each instance a unique magic ID?

If same name trick does not work you should ask Steinberg, you can see the ID in the Nebula master .XML files. I don't have here any Steinberg Cubase/Nuendo product to try.

Solved.

If the names of the separate instances do not start with Nebula then they will transfer OK. Any duplication of names at the beginning of the name confuses Cubase & it opens nothing.

Odd that it can recognise these duplicates within the same version but not between x86 & x64.

Still means I can't transfer existing projects intact, but happy to have at least worked out why!

That is so weird. I still think you should demo Reaper more seriously. I have NEVER had issues like this. Good luck! I am glad that you at least are up and running again.

Oh I've tried...gave it a good go before another £150 update to Cubase last year....but as a Steinberg user since pro24 on the Atari over 20 years ago any other DAW just feels too alien to me.

Anyhow I now have Cubase 64 running so it opens the Jbridged versions of all my Nebulas in old projects but I also have native 64 bit instances with different names if I want to swap them over.

Cheers
Grim.
