32 bit to 64 bit project transfer.

Postby Grim » Wed Jun 20, 2012 1:11 am

So I finally decided it was worthwhile setting up a 64bit Cubase & to hopefully start phasing out the 32 bit. With a bit of Jbridge & some downloading of 64bit installers I seem to have got there with one exception.

All the plugs that I installed 64 bit versions of will open in place of the 32 bit equivalent when I open a project that was started on 32 bit.....but Nebula isn't doing it.

I actually had multiple Nebula instances in 32 bit created with Nebula Setups & I made sure I created exactly the same dll's for my 64 bit folders, but my project opens with all Nebula's listed as missing plugs.

I can load the 64 bits as new plugs into the project....it's just that they aren't seen as the same plug.

Is there any way to make the instances recognised so I can load old 32 bit projects & works in progress into 64 bit to continue??

I am not a Cubase user, but in Reaper Nebula instances are interchangeable in 64bit and 32bit as long as the dll's are NAMED IDENTICALLY. That means that the 64bit dll's that normally have the "x64" before the ".dll" need to just say ".dll" after whatever you named them. And not just how you named them in Nebulasetups, but the actual dll names need to be the same.

Thanks for responding....I don't have the x64 in any names, I kept them exactly as my 32bit.

I'm beginning to wonder if I managed to get confused in Neb setups & created them from the non reverb version while the 32 bit are all from reverb version though I thought they were one plug with different settings anyway so not sure this would matter.

Do you still have the 32bit Nebula's installed? And do you have Cubase set up to scan in the right place for the 64bit Nebula's? Did you indeed make them from the 64bit Nebula dll's and 64bit XML files?

32 bit are still installed, Cubase scans the 64bit & can open them ok...it just won't open existing projects with them in place. And yes they are definitely created from the 64 bit versions.

I tried deleting one instance & manually copying renaming to be sure but still no go.

Edit....Think I spotted the problem....an extra space crept in to the naming somehow! Testing now.

I bet that is it. They really need to be identical.

Actually that wasn't it....not all of them were wrong & correcting makes no difference.

One thing I notice is that the Nebula3CoreIIx64.xml & Nebula3CoreIIx64 Reverb.xml files both have a padlock symbol on them that I haven't seen on any other xml.....but they do copy (with no lock) & edit as normal.

The xml files need to be named the same as their corresponding dll's. If the xml's have the x64 on them, rename them so they match the dll's (other than one is a dll and the other is a dll!)

Yes....xml are same as dll....otherwise I wouldn't be able to run the plugs in C64 at all which I can.

I just deleted everything & reinstalled 32 & 64 bit Nebs from scratch & I still can't get any Neb to save in 32 bit & then open in 64bit. (Or vice-versa)

I suspect that this is about the plugin ID....I think the DAW looks first to an internal ID & then to the names. Perhaps in the last server version something got changed so the 32 & 64 bit plugs aren't the same ID anymore??

I guess I'll have to bridge the 32 bit versions until I can get some help on this.

Weird. It works flawlessly for me, and has been so for months. Not to be redundant, but I have learned in these situations that sometimes it's the asking many times what seems to be the same questions..... Can you tell me what each set of dll's and xml's are called? Or even better, maybe a screenshot of each folder contents (32 and 64bit folders) feel free to PM me this. Sometimes seeing what you see will help. I am just convinced that this is caused by something simple that we are merely missing right now.
